Welcome to SCS Music!
Stockdale Christian School has always placed an emphasis on music, and our Music Department has become a legacy with many different programs!
The Bible places a strong emphasis on music, and we apply these Biblical principles throughout our music curriculum and instruction. God inhabits the praise of His people, and our students learn how to effectively express themselves with confidence to the Lord with music and song.
Praise Him with the blast of trumpets high into the heavens, and praise Him with harps and lyres and the rhythm of the tambourines skillfully played by those who love and fear the Eternal.
Praise Him with singing and dancing; praise Him with flutes and strings of all kinds!
Praise Him with crashing cymbals, loud clashing cymbals!
Let everything that breathes sing praises to the LORD! Praise the LORD!
–Psalm 150:3-6 (The Voice, NLT)
Students in Grades K-6 participate in music on a weekly basis. With the exception of Kindergarten classes which meet once a week, all elementary classes meet twice a week for 30-40 minutes.
Using Bob Jones University Press curriculum, students are taught music theory & music appreciation and are introduced to each family of instruments in the orchestra. A wide variety of classroom activities includes reading and writing music, singing, movement and playing simple rhythm or melody instruments. Top-notch musical programs are the highlight of each season at SCS. Grades K-3 and Grades 4-5 treat family and friends to entertaining Christmas Concerts and Spring Concerts each year.

We have our very own Piano Studio at Stockdale Christian School!
The Piano Studio is under the direction of Mrs. Mandy Van Dyke. One of the things that make the SCS Piano Studio unique is that we offer weekly 45-minute private lessons, compared to the typical 30-minute lesson. We offer lessons during and after school. Lessons are also available to homeschoolers.
We teach all musical levels, Kindergarten – 8th Grade. Our experienced piano instructors focus on rhythm, technique, ear training, improvisation, and composition just to name a few. Our instructors tailor their teaching to your child’s needs; and offer instruction for additional genres such as classical, hymn or worship music.
We offer two formal piano recitals each year and other fun things throughout the year such as school lunch recitals with friends, piano field trips to local retirement homes, contests and much more! SCS is also the host school for the ACSI Piano Festival each Spring.
We currently have over 60 piano students and are growing each year! For more information regarding pricing and other benefits offered, please pick up an information packet in the Band Room or email Mandy Van Dyke email@example.com. Please include your child’s name, grade, and any musical experience they may already have. Space is limited, so please don’t hesitate to contact us today!
We are blessed to have Mrs. Cindy Orndorff as our vocal music teacher here at Stockdale Christian School. Mrs. Orndorff has been teaching vocal music at SCS since 1995. A graduate of Cincinnati Christian University (as salutatorian of her class) with a double major in vocal performance and Biblical studies, she has also served in churches as a director of both adult and children’s choirs for over 30 years. During that time, she has directed over 100 children’s musicals. In addition to her full-time role at SCS, Cindy (along with her husband) has served as ministry director for the children’s choirs at Valley Baptist Church since 2002.
Originally from Los Angeles, Miss Ashley Zerillo moved to Bakersfield, California in 2015 where she currently teaches at Stockdale Christian Schools in the Jr. High department. Her responsibilities include Jr. High Language Arts and World History as she also directs the 6-8th grade choir program and Jr. High Praise Band. Ashley is no stranger to the stage as she spent her time in Los Angeles as a vocal artist and actress for various operas and musicals. Ashley attended Vanguard University for her undergraduate degree and majored in vocal performance. Ashley has been a featured soloist at Segerstrom Performing Arts Center in Orange County and performed in New York City’s Lincoln Center. In 2016, Ashley graduated with her master’s degree in education from Concordia University. She is currently in a doctoral program through Liberty University and is on track to graduate in the Spring of 2021.
Stockdale Christian School’s Jr. High Praise Band is dedicated to bringing glory to God, on and off the stage. The praise band serves every week during Jr. High chapel. The team is also responsible for being leaders around the campus and promoting positive choices while going to class and participating in other activities SCS has to offer. The praise band rehearses every Monday and Wednesday for 45 minutes. Students who make up the praise band are required to audition, maintain a passing GPA and create a positive environment for their classmates. The praise band looks different every year depending on the students that audition and accepts instrumentalists (guitar, bass, keyboard, drums) and vocalists.
6-8th Grade Choir
The 6-8th grade choir at SCS is dedicated to excellence in music. Led by Miss Zerillo, the choir lends its talents to traditional pieces of chorale music. The SCS 6-8th choir practices Tuesdays and Fridays for 45 minutes, and performs in the Fall and Spring concerts along with the SCS band program. The choir has also been invited to sing for Stockdale Christian’s Principal’s Circle Fundraiser. Foreign languages are a strong part of this program and music theory is integrated into rehearsals for preparation into high school and collegiate choirs. Foreign languages are a staple in the repertoire along with spirituals, songs from musicals, and standard chorale pieces.
